Dr. Kip Franklin is a Michigan-based music educator and performer with over a decade of experience in higher education. He previously served on the faculties of the University of South Alabama and Saginaw Valley State University, where he taught applied clarinet, woodwind methods, and music theory. He is currently based in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area and maintains an active teaching and performance schedule.
He performs regularly with the Midland Symphony Orchestra and appears frequently with other professional ensembles throughout the state, including the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and the Saginaw Bay Symphony.
Dr. Franklin is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Clarinet Association, where he served on the executive board from 2021–2026. He has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia and has presented masterclasses at public schools and universities nationwide.
His professional interests include developing accessible teaching strategies for non-clarinetist educators, with a focus on practical, student-centered instruction that supports meaningful musical growth.
