Yumiko Ito graduated first from Hyogo Prefectural Nishinomiya High School, then Tokyo University of the Arts and Cologne University of Music. She has studied clarinet under Tetsuo Ogawa, Yoshiaki Suzuki, Yuji Murai, and Ralph Manno. She has won numerous awards, including 1st place at the Japan Woodwind Competition and 2nd place at the Japan Music Competition. After working in the orchestral music research division (Geidai Philharmonia Orchestra), she is now a clarinet player in the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Ito is a member of the Triton Harumi Orchestra, and the Tokyo Mitaka Philharmonia.
